Is Search Privacy an Issue? Should we be concerned that when we search Google or other search engines our search queries are being recorded and/or sold? Search queries can reveal many things about a person from their personal interests to their ailments and concerns. However, search expert Danny Sullivan says not to worry. For the search queries to be personally associated with you, the search engine would have to obtain information from your ISP. Still, others worry that there could indeed be some major privacy issues here -- especially if a big search engine ends up being owned by a company that is also an ISP. This makes upgrading a never-ending process for the millions of Microsoft software users and IT managers. Unfortunately, there is no end in sight for the process Microsoft is currently using, so IT departments have to find a way to work it into their daily routing. And personal PC users will have to manage to grab the updates regularly as well. Source: Ecommercetimes.com Affiliate Programs Thrive Online Affiliate programs may not have the buzz they once had. Many webmasters were turned off by affiliate programs when the dot-com crash came, affiliate programs were canceled and many checks went unpaid. However, despite the crash and the industry slump, the affiliate industry continues. Today, affiliate providers like Linkshare.com, CJ.com, Performics and BeFree continue to connect merchants with website owners. And companies like Amazon.com continue to rake in profits from its large independent network of affiliate websites. Google, which can handle up to 7 million queries per hour and can be queried in 36 languages. But how long can Google maintain this superiority over its competitors? Yahoo, Overture and other search rivals are trying to catch up; rumor has it that Microsoft also wants to do battle with Google. Sources: Forbes.com The Browser War Is Over A big agreement between Microsoft and America Online has ended the browser war -- at least for the immediate future. Microsoft will pay $750 million to AOL as part of the digital media deal and AOL will continue to use Internet Explorer and other Microsoft media products. AOL will also drop an antitrust lawsuit against Microsoft as part of the deal. Each hit includes an excerpt and link to the full posting. NetNews Tracker can used to monitor thousands of newsgroups for postings that mention a name, company, URL, or any other topic of interest. Newsblotter.com http://www.newsblotter.com Newsblotter.com has officially began operations by providing breaking news stories and investigative journalism. Newsblotter.com is operated and wholly owned by Spectra Corporation, based in Las Vegas, NV. The navigation of Newsblotter.com is based on news from geographic regions and interest areas. The Newsblotter.com staff researches articles and news events from around the world and posts them on the Newsblotter.com website. Slashdot Games http://games.slashdot.org Slashdot Games is a new information section of the Slashdot site aimed at serving the needs of the gaming community. The new site provides Slashdot-style editorial to console and PC gamers, developers and designers. Slashdot Games will feature daily articles, new product announcements, discussion of game development and programming, interviews with leading game developers and designers, reviews, and commentary from site visitors. Internet World http://www.internetworld.com Internet World is moving its print publication online and relaunching its website. Internet World's expanded website will provide research, forums, webcasts, web events, and Internet business messaging services. The site will also contain an archived database of Internet World articles, as well as a library of white papers and other contributed content. Ed Tech http://www.cdwg.com/edtech Ed Tech is a new magazine and website addressing the needs of information technology (IT) professionals, teachers and school administrators in primary education (K-12). Each issue will showcase innovative applications of technology in the classroom, offer tips and provide analysis of important technology issues facing K-12 schools. In addition, Ed Tech will profile individuals who drive innovation and change to achieve results. MusicNow http://www.musicnow.com FullAudio Corp. has launched MusicNow, a new digital music service. MusicNow is designed around 36 channels, each of which features music programming and unlimited downloading of individual music tracks. Writers Write Self-publishing Resource http://www.writerswrite.com/selfpublishing/ The writerswrite.com self-publishing resource includes articles, features, and discussion. The resource section contains links to helpful online self-publishing resources. An entire section on book promotion is also provided, to help self-published authors learn how to get the word out about their new books. The resource also contains lists of books offering self-publishing advice and self-publishing classified ads.
