We've gathered the most informative sources for weather on the Web, including weather for pilots, boaters and even for space travelers. Vol. 1, Issue No. 3 All About Weather And A Little About Halloween AccuWeather http://www.accuweather.com/ AccuWeather is a comprehensive free online weather service which includes satellite images, doppler radar and outlooks for the next several days. It also offers "Personal AccuWeather" which allows you to get weather data for your hometown and name your own page. You can even have weather warnings sent to your pager so you will know if a hurricane is heading into your neighborhood. In Frame and Non-Frame versions. Aviation Weather Center http://www.awc-kc.noaa.gov/ Thie AWC site issues forecasts, warnings and reports of use in aviation, such as winds aloft, Terminal Aerodrome Forecasts, wind/temperature plots and much more. The site will also be of interest to novices, because it provides definitions of terms such as Signets and Airmets for those not already in the know. The site also provides online current text aviation forecasts from the AWC. CNN Weather http://www.cnn.com/WEATHER/ CNN's weather site highlights the top weather stories. Recent stories included a feature on El Nino, entitled El Nino Returns. This weather service also includes forecasts for specific U.S. regions as well as forecast and radar maps. Intellicast http://www.intellicast.com Intellicast provides forecasts for major cities worldwide for the next five days. Has an extensive ski report for those of you looking for great ski conditions in the US, Canada and Europe. Marine Weather.com http://www.marineweather.com/ This site is devoted specifically to marine weather on all coasts. From the New England shoreline to Hong Kong all the news you need to know about coastal weather is right here. Find out breaking weather conditions, coast reports, tides, currents and much more. National Hurricane Center http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ This government site will keep you up to date on all Tropical activity. Includes satellite images, warnings, and analysis of sea temperatures. Much of this site's weather data and reports are used by weather services nationwide. Space Weather http://www.sel.noaa.gov/today.html Too much static on your cell phone? Check out the Space Weather site to see if those pesky solar flares are acting up again. The Space Weather site is a project of The Space Environment Center (SEC) which is one of the 11 Environmental Research Laboratories of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration ("NOAA"). The Space Weather Office ("SWO") monitors solar and geometric activity of the Sun and issues worldwide warnings when solar flares are expected to interrupt communications and other devices. Storm 97 http://www.storm97.com This great looking site's main focus is hurricanes, and even though the tropics have been relatively quiet, there is still plenty of content here. Includes the latest reports, satellite updates, audio and more. You can even have the latest reports emailed to you as they happen. Be sure to read the story of the pilot of the Hurricane Hunter aircraft who has made more then 200 flights into raging hurricanes. The Weather Channel http://www.weather.com/ The Weather Channel's website is fantastic. Every kind of weather information is here, and you can customize your own personal weather page. Be sure not to miss the Storm Watch, allergy reports and the image and radar maps that look just like they do on TV. A recent addition is the The Weather Classroom at http://www.weather.com/education/. The Weather Network http://www.theweathernetwork.com This online weather service from Canada's 24-hour television service has weather maps, radar and more. Some interesting information reports include pollen, ultra violet, air quality, barbeque and weatherwire, which brings you the latest weather-related news. Amateur meteorologists with burning weather questions on their minds might peruse the Ask the Expert section. If you plan to travel anywhere in Canada, be sure to visit the Travel Report section to avoid being delayed by bad weather and road construction. Tornado Project Online http://www.tornadoproject.com/ The Tornado Project Online is a great site for the tornado enthusiast. Offering products of videos, posters, and books this company's website also offers great content including the current tornado strikes of the year, explanation of the Fujita scale, tornado stories and tips on tornado safety. Those curious about the lives of those who chase these destructive storms should follow the storm chasers links. And just in time for Halloween... Halloween.com http://www.halloween.com If the large, creepy red skull doesn't frighten you away, you'll want to see the rest of this website with its great guide to links related to Halloween. Categories with links and descriptions include vampires, ghosts, costumes/props, scary stories/tales and more. There are enough links here to keep you busy for hours. Bookmark this site as a jumping off point for October 31st! HauntWorld.com http://www.hauntworld.com Did you even know there was a Haunt Industry? There is, and it's thriving -- just ask this website's frightmaster. Hauntworld offers articles, tips, news and interactive message boards to keep you clued in on what is going on in the haunt industry this busy time of year. This site also features a great index of haunted houses with addresses nationwide. Cool graphics. Spookyworld http://www.spookyworld.com Spookyworld is the website of "America's horror theme park". Even if you can't visit the physical park, you will want to visit this website to find out about its celebrity visits, hosted weddings (yes, weddings) and hear the theme song that you won't be able to get our of your head. You can also get directions to the theme park and buy tickets online. Yes, they also sell coffins online (not used, though). El Dia De Los Muertos (The Day of the Dead) http://www-lib.usc.edu/Info/Boeck/Dead/index.html Halloween isn't just celebrated in the U.S. All Catholic Countries celebrate All Saints' or All Souls' Day. In Mexico, El Dia De Los Muertos is a very important, happy holiday where the dead are remembered with their favorite foods, flowers and celebrations. This site, provided by the USC library, contains numerous links to sources for information on this fascinating holiday. SPIRIT http://user.icx.net/~issac/ The Society of Paranormal Investigation, Research and Investigational Training ("SPIRIT") has created an interesting site for those with a yen to investigate hauntings. Pleasing design and interesting descriptions of the mission of SPIRIT make this a great place for would-be ghost hunters.
