Posted on January 31, 2004

The United State Homeland Defense Department has launched the National Cyber Alert System or US-CERT at uscert.gov. The National Cyber Alert System warns of cyber threats and vulnerabilities, and offers advice and solutions.

The website provides four types of documents Technical Cyber Security Alerts, Cyber Security Alerts, Cyber Security Bulletins and Cyber Security Tips which can be found online or by email. The website also provides ongoing information about current virus activity and removal solutions.

Computer World reports that Amit Yoran, a former executive at Symantec Corp., is heading the new division. The launch of the National Cyber Alert System follows the MyDoom virus that recently slowed Internet performance. It also comes during growing concern about cyber threats and identify theft.
