Yahoo to Offer Movable Type
Posted on December 13, 2005Reuters reports that Yahoo will offer the Movable Type blog hosting platform to its small business web hosting customers. The move was part of a deal between Yahoo and Six Apart, the developer of Movable Type, that will see Yahoo become Six Apart's preferred supplier for Movable Type.
Yahoo also just recently announced the acquisition of Del.icio.us, a social bookmarking website, which followed its purchase of Flickr, a photo sharing website, earlier this year. Yahoo has been aggressive in 2005 about purchasing Web 2.0 companies and cutting deals for blog content and blog services.Yahoo will effectively act as the preferred provider of Movable Type for small business users, taking advantage of its scale and efficiency, Anil Dash, vice president of professional products for San Francisco-based Six Apart, said in a phone interview.
"This is going to be our recommended (sales) channel for small business," he said.
Sunnyvale, California-based Yahoo said it will offer commercial blogs based on Movable Type as part of its existing small business Web-site management service.
Yahoo provides customers with a unique Web address, blogging tools and business-class e-mail services with spam and virus protections for less than $12 a month.
